THE PURSUIT OF A BETTER LIFE

Support Our Veterans

All United States senators must provide and expand federal benefits for veterans, ensuring that our veterans receive the support and care they deserve.

The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 is a pressing issue that proposes rescinding and limiting veterans’ benefits for those who can qualify. The Foundation and many of Donald Trump’s most trusted allies are foolishly advocating that fewer high-condition disabilities will qualify for life-saving benefits in a second Trump stay in the White House. This is a matter that demands our immediate attention and action.

Not only should veterans’ benefits related to disabilities be protected, but I will also fight for more expanded veterans’ benefits if elected to the United States Senate in November. My personal commitment to this cause is unwavering, and I will always stand by our veterans.

Rick Scott has pledged to be Donald Trump’s most ardent supporter in his race for Senate Majority Leader, which would be a slap in the face of veterans who gave of themselves for this nation in combat and military service.

I wholeheartedly reject Project 2025’s plan to rescind and limit veterans’ benefits. I would advocate for expanding federal benefits for U.S. service veterans in ways that would significantly impact a veteran’s quality of life.

Several of my proposals include:

  • Eliminate Minimum Service Requirements to Receive Benefits: I do not believe veterans should be subjected to minimum service requirements before receiving or being eligible for Veteran’s Administration (VA) benefits.  If they served, regardless of time, and are in good standing with their military branch, then they should be eligible for benefits. Period.

  • Disability and Pension Benefits: Compensation rates should be adjusted to reflect the actual cost of living better and be benchmarked to the severity of a veteran’s disabilities. Simplifying the claims process should also make it easier and faster for veterans to file and receive their disability claims.

  • Healthcare Access and Improvement:  Coverage should be expanded to ensure that all veterans, regardless of their discharge status or length of service, have easier access to comprehensive healthcare, including telehealth and mental health services. We should also work to streamline processes to reduce veterans' wait times for appointments and procedures at VA hospitals and clinics.

  • Long-Term Care and Aging Veterans: The availability and quality of long-term care facilities for aging veterans should be increased, as well as home care services that will allow them to stay in their homes later in life.

  • Housing and Homelessness Prevention: We must increase funding for affordable housing targeting veterans, expand programs to prevent veterans from becoming homeless, and enhance VA home loan programs to make homeownership more accessible for veterans.

  • Family and Dependent Support: More resources and support should be provided to families of veterans, including counseling and financial planning assistance, and expanded educational benefits should include spouses and children of veterans. Emergency financial assistance for veterans or their families in crisis should be made available along with financial literacy programs to help veterans manage their finances and plan for the future following their military services.

  • Employment and Education Programs: The GI Bill should be enhanced to cover more educational opportunities, including vocational training and certification programs. Job training and placement programs tailored to veterans should also be expanded. Grants and resources for veterans who wish to start their own businesses should also be provided through both the VA and the Small Business Administration.

  • Legal and Advocacy Support: Legal aid should be provided to help veterans navigate the varied complexities of their benefits and services and deal with legal issues related to their benefits, employment opportunities, and housing options.

Project 2025 is designed to reshape the United States federal government and consolidate executive power under Donald Trump when he wins the 2024 presidential election. Project 2025’s proposals come from a collection of conservative and right-wing policy advocates under the leadership of the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.

I am astounded that Project 2025 and any of Donald Trump’s allies, including Rick Scott, would advocate for anything less than I have suggested here. All United States senators must provide and expand federal benefits for veterans, ensuring that our veterans receive the support and care they deserve. I am firmly committed to that belief.
